Incentivising Performance

(including use of incentive pay such as Short Term Incentives - STI)

This course is designed to provide participants with a very good understanding of the fundamentals of incentive pay, and the mechanisms for linking performance to pay.
Incentive pay is much talked about but very poorly understood. It often attracts very unfavourable comments. It is however, a solid foundation on which to build clear and unambiguous alignment of results and reward. It is easy to get wrong, it is not hard to get right, like a lot of things participants need to understand and follow the rules.
This workshop takes participants through the pitfalls, explains how to develop a unique and robust framework and provides material for participants to develop and manage their own incentive scheme.

The course is aimed at CEOs, HR and Corporate Services managers who have responsibility for strategic HR decisions and devising effective performance systems.

Job Mapping

Today’s organisations are seeking greater added value from HR systems and processes. The silos of conventional job evaluation and job matching are proving increasingly ineffective in dealing with the wider challenges confronting modern organisations. Job mapping provides a nimble and practical analytical matching tool for organisations wishing to size roles and develop pay bands without the huge investment of time and resources of traditional job evaluation or benchmarking.
This course is aimed at HR and OD specialists seeking to leverage greater value out of their HR systems and processes.
This workshop offers an introduction to job mapping, including:
+     Where job mapping fits in the context of job evaluation and job matching
+     How job mapping aligns with career perspectives
+     Integrating job mapping with reward strategy, market pricing, job design
+     How to implement  job mapping, including use of band structures
+     Hands-on practical exercises to build and consolidate understanding

Participants who have completed this course will have a very different perspective on job evaluation and will understand why job mapping is rapidly gaining ground in Europe, North America and Asia as the cornerstone of remuneration management.

Cost:              $300 +gst per person
Christchurch:   Thursday 31 May, 1pm-4pm

Courses related to PLUS+ model for Driving Organisation Performance

Future Proof Strategic Planning

To survive any organisation needs good short term planning and a high degree of operational flexibility. An organisation’s strategic planning fails for one of the following reasons:
+     They don’t do it. Professing that the pace of change is so fast in their respective industry that strategic planning is meaningless or that 9 months is long term.
+     They see the future as linear that is they view the pace of change as constant, whereas the future is exponential, that is the pace of change is accelerating.
+     They see the future as singular. They identify a single view of the future business environment and plan for that. For example an organisation may believe that in twenty years time geopolitics will be dominated by the centre right. Whilst this is possible, and may even be probable it is also possible that geopolitics may be dominated by the centre left, the extreme left, the extreme, right, or the Greens.
+     They fail to confront unpleasant futures. Many organisations fail to plan strategically for catastrophe or any prolonged negative impact on the business environment, planning only how their organisation will progress in positive scenarios.
+     They engage expensive external parties to prepare their business strategy, resulting in a usually weighty report which none of the leadership team have any ownership of.
+     They fail to connect the strategic plan to actions which will need to occur in annual plans.

The Future proof strategic planning workshop will give participants a brief insight into each of the steps in future proof strategic planning:  Current State Analysis, Fore sighting, Scenario Learning, Multi Future State Envisioning, Intermediate Optimisation, and Action Planning all linked by the 8 Facets of Business. Learn how to confront the future and build readiness and resilience into your annual business plan.

Ideal for CEOs, senior and strategic managers.

Organisational Modelling

An organisation model is:
+     A graphical representation of the functions or teams which make up an organisation;
+     A statement of purpose for each of those functions; and
+     A set of rules to guide the behaviours of those functions when interacting with each other internally and with the external stakeholders
An organisation model is not the same as an organisation chart, which will show individual roles and formal reporting lines.
A customer focused organisation model will improve the performance of your management team and your business, whilst also resolving internal conflict. Learn how organisation modelling can work for you from the course leader who has applied this tool in a large number of organisations including, Christchurch City Council, Housing New Zealand Corporation, St John and EQC.

Course participants will take part in a case study based on a recent assignment.

Cost:              $800 +gst per person
Christchurch:   Wednesday 30 May, 9am-4:30pm, lunch provided

Accountability Mapping

An Accountability is the Responsibility, Ownership and Authority for Outcomes, Outputs, and Results which the organisation must achieve in order to be successful.
Nothing happens in an organisation unless a person does it. In Accountability Mapping we identify the results, the key outputs that have to be achieved for the organisation to meet its mission and then we identify which piece of the business ultimately down to the individual level should take authority, ownership and responsibility for achieving that result. In accountability mapping we also explore how the pieces of the business interact to help each other achieve that result.

In the workshop we will introduce you to what is Accountability Mapping, why use Accountability Mapping, and building an Accountability List. Accountability understanding is the precursor to a robust organisation structure and leads to coherent Position Descriptions and good performance management design.

Cost:              $300 +gst per person
