Change of Ownership and Leadership

Happy New Year and we hope that you are doing well as you prepare for the year ahead. Thank you for choosing Strategic Pay in the past to service your needs and gain the best information to help you achieve business goals.

We are very pleased to be able to share with you some exciting news on the new ownership and future leadership of Strategic Pay.

Succession and longevity of a company is an important consideration for any good leader. Our succession plan, outlined in this announcement, continues the importance to both retiring and incoming executives of building the company for the future, the hallmarks we believe of any organization that wishes to manages the challenges it will face in the longer term.

After 17 years at Strategic Pay and over 11 years as CEO, John McGill will be retiring as CEO and transitioning to the position of Board Chair this January. John has transferred ownership to 5 incoming shareholders. At Strategic Pay, we pride ourselves as being 100% New Zealand owned and having a high level of transparency with staff and clients in the market; we are pleased to maintain this position with this announcement.

Strategic Pay will continue in its legacy as an employee owned business, owned by people who work in the business and who are passionate about Strategic Pay’s purpose. The new shareholders will be Don Young (Senior Consultant), Lyn Brieseman (Senior Consultant), Michelle Read (Manager Southern Consulting), Santa Harvett (Manager Digital Transformation) and Cathy Hendry (incoming Managing Director).

We have the great pleasure of announcing the appointment of Cathy Hendry, currently Senior Consultant Tauranga, as incoming Managing Director. Cathy has over 15 years remuneration consulting experience and has been a Senior Consultant with Strategic Pay for 10 years. For the last 4 years Cathy has successfully set up and run our Tauranga office, resulting in significant growth in Tauranga and the Bay of Plenty Region. A recent focus of Cathy’s work has been pay equity where she has chaired the internal committee; developing and managing our systems, working on and leading client assignments in this area, and being a member of the group that presented to the parliamentary select committee on the draft legislation. She has intimate knowledge of the business and our clients and gives certainty in the continuity of our strategy and vision for growth. We believe that Cathy has the professional and personal qualities, aligned with Strategic Pay’s vision and values, to provide outstanding leadership.

In terms of key dates, John McGill will transition into the role of Chair of the Board and Cathy Hendry will commence her position as Managing Director on 25th January 2021. The other four shareholders will continue to work as employees of Strategic Pay in their current roles and will also sit on the Board of Strategic Pay as Directors.

As we move into the next chapter of Strategic Pay, we acknowledge the dedication and hard work that John McGill has given to Strategic Pay. We thank him for his service and look forward to farewelling him at an appropriate time.

Strategic Pay continues to pursue the same strategic objectives as a company and continue to be proud to be 100% New Zealand owned and operated, providing clients with New Zealand’s best source of remuneration knowledge.
