New Zealand Pandemic Business Response Survey 8 Results are now available!

The Market Information team is pleased to announce the publication of the New Zealand Pandemic Business Response Pulse Survey 8 Results which outline work from home practices which have evolved as a result of the pandemic.

John McGill, CEO of Strategic Pay says “It is not a matter of having a think about it, or we will look into it with WFH practices, rather it is really only a matter of getting the policy right and ensuring when it is implemented that it works. Covid-19 has changed in a few months what was happening anyway but relatively slowly. There are some complexities around technology, costs, and  monitoring of performance but these are seen as difficulties to overcome rather than barriers to the policy being introduced. This is a dramatic and, most would argue, welcome change to our working practices. Combined with increasing flexibility around hours of work, casual dress practices, open plan offices, less hierarchical management structures, and Zoom, workplaces have indeed changed dramatically in the past 15 years”

Some key findings include:

  • 38% of responding organisations are allowing staff to do a mix of working from home and working in the office
  • 51% of organisations in the Public sector are allowing staff to do a mix of working from home and working the office
  • 47% of organisations in the Not for Profit sector are allowing staff to do a mix of working from home and working the office
  • 26% of organisations in the Private sector are allowing staff to do a mix of working from home and working the office
  • 40% of responding organisations indicated that they didn’t have a working from home policy prior to COVID-19 but would now be establishing one
  • 65% of responding organisations do not have a policy to reimburse employees for any work from home expenses
  • 35% of responding organisations had a Working from Home Policy but updating it to reflect current environment
